I finished inking this gigantic 13″ x 19″ Conan illustration by Jack ‘King’ Kirby this morning. I plan to color this thing next week, so look for that here. In the meantime, I’ve uploaded a pic of the original art sitting on my drafting board, along with a high res of the inks. I talk a bit about this on this week’s live-stream, which you can replay from the previous post.
It goes without saying that I’m a huge fan of Jack Kirby’s work and always enjoy inking his pencils whenever I have the chance. I had actually started inking this digitally (see older post) but decided it deserved the traditional tools instead. I’m very glad I did. Although digitally inking is a more efficient method, for my money nothing can beat the traditional tools of a Windsor-newton brush slinging on a sheet of 2-ply Bristol board paper.
I’ve also added two new collections to my Patreon page, ‘Works-in-Progress’ and ‘Finished Art’. These should help keep all the new art postings more organized and easier to access.
