HARK Book II Page 3

This page took a lot longer to complete than usual, mainly because my day job as a freelance Graphic Designer has taken up much of the spare time I typically devote to working on this book. Like many, I’ve also been in scramble mode adapting to the current economic crisis, doing what I can to help current and new clients navigate through these difficult times. In other words, I still have a job, but I’m putting in some extra hours to make sure that I keep it. Even so, I am of course squeezing in the time to continue with Hark, and hope to get the next page posted here either next week or the following week. In the meantime, I’ve included a work-in-progress glimpse of page 4.

Book II, Page 2

Page 2 ended up as an unintentional blend of literal and non-literal imagery. I introduced what might look like a magical component to the narrative, with Ellyur journaling, while the reader gets a view of her thought process. One can interpret this as representational only, or perhaps the pen is of a futuristic technology that conjures imagery to coincide with her writing. In either choice, I’m employing basic graphic design philosophy, using imagery to lead the eye toward important messaging. I hope you like it, because I plan to bring more ‘out of the box’ concepts like this to the book.

Book II Page 1

Our world has changed radically since I posted the last page of Book I. There are more changes ahead. I suspect that everything is going to be transformed in some way after the pandemic ends, the least of which could be comics. As I’m writing this, all of the major comic publishers have put their publishing schedule on hiatus. Creators across the country have been contacted by their editors and publishers, informing them to ‘put their pencils down’.

Things seem…dire. But I want to continue with my work, especially now that we’re all stuck at home, attempting to work during a crisis, plowing through media, fearing the worst, hoping for the best. Although my own work schedule has also been disrupted by the Covid pandemic, I’m committed to NOT put my pencil down anytime soon.

Hark #2 Cover

I hope you’re doing well, staying safe and healthy during the Covid pandemic. Like many of us, I’m doing what I can to maintain some semblance of normalcy through all of this. With that in mind, I decided to start posting the latest completed pages of Hark #2, starting today.  I’m not sure what the weeks and months ahead will hold, but I’m going to do my best to stay focused on delivering a new page to you as often as possible. I think we all need distractions away from the 24/7 news cycle, so I’m going to do what I can to provide a little of that here.

Hark #1 Print Edition is here!

Thanks for being patient and sticking around while I’m working on Hark #2. Part of my time away from Patreon has been spent getting a print edition ready of Hark #1, and some other things I can’t announce yet. For now, as a special reward for your patronage, I’m offering to mail each current Patron a signed copy of Hark #1. Just send me a private message here with your mailing address and I’ll get your copy in the mail! As much as I love digital comics, nothing can beat the tactile experience of holding a comic in your hands and turning the pages. Thanks again for helping make this project possible and for your continued patronage!
