I often wind down for the evening with a bit of sketching, here’s a couple from this week, drawn on my iPad Pro in clip studio paint. I referenced the great Andrew Loomis art books for these, which may explain why these ‘dames’ look like they are from the 1940’s.
Creating Comics Livestream June 6 at 10:30am (EST)
I’m planning to complete the preliminary layouts for the sequel to Saga of A Doomed Universe tomorrow morning. This is the first milestone in the process and depending on how smoothly things go, I may also start lettering the issue during tomorrows live-stream. Hope to see you then!

Saga of a Doomed Universe II Preliminary Layouts
This is how it all starts, with very loose, very sketchy preliminary layouts that help me determine the composition of each panel on each page. It’s a messy business but these will all make sense soon enough.
High Strangeness
Here’s the latest re-inked pages of High Strangeness, in all their high-res glory. For page 14, I’ve included the original page to the left, so you can see a few of the subtle adjustments I’ve made. Some of the art is intentionally left un-inked, because I will be pasting the lettering caption boxes over those areas later. Most of the changes I’ve made on this project are limited to redraws of some faces and adjustments to panel shapes and placements. For instance, on page 14, I also removed the plane from panel 5 because it didn’t feel necessary since the same view of the plane is shown on the last panel directly below. Added to that, it’s pretty clear already that panel 5 is from the pilots point of view. I opted to make the last panel open, without panel border. I think this evokes a greater sense of expansive, quiet isolation.
Page 15 is pretty much exactly the same except I refined the pilots face a bit and reworked the flying saucer shapes a little.

From the archive: Avengers poster illustration & Modok sketch
Here’s a gigantic 22″ x 30″ Avengers pencil illustration from 2019. I had intended to ink this and auction it, but the thing was too expensive to ship flat and I didn’t want to roll it because I was concerned that might reduce its value. In the end, it found a good home at my local comic shop, where it’s currently on display. The second piece is a Modok sketch from around 2006 or so.
