Livestream Drawing, High Strangeness Title Change and Latest Art Prints

Yesterday on the livestream I started work on the cover art for Secret Powers #2. I’m not quite sure if this will be cover A or not, but I like the direction it’s heading so far. I’ll likely continue working on it this week, so if you haven’t yet, I hope you’ll stop by my daily livestream at 10am-11am Eastern Time.

High Strangeness Redux:

I resumed work on High Strangeness Redux yesterday evening and finished re-inking this page:

Although I’ve been hesitant to redraw anything as I’m re-inking, this was a page that happened to have two likenesses that were just unacceptable to me, nearly 30 years later. You can see in the before-after pages here that I reworked the faces quite a bit while still retaining the same line styling. I also refined the flying saucer a little so the ellipses are more accurate.

On the downside, I just learned that ONI press is publishing a 5-issue mini-series called High Strangeness. Unfortunately, I don’t think there’s a lot I can do about this since my book has been out of print for a number of years. In all likelihood, I’ll have to turn this into an opportunity to retitle the book with a more compelling name and branding. For now, I’m continuing to refer to the project as High Strangeness Redux and will explore new title names after it’s completed. It’s disappointing, but these things do happen more often than you might think, not only in comics but in the wider entertainment medium in general. It’s actually the second time in my career when I’ve had to retitle a project. Saga of a Doomed Universe was initially planned to be called ‘Saga’ and I had already developed a logo:

And then along came a different ‘Saga’ at Image Comics, right around the same time. This was all still early stages of the project, and I was faced with re-thinking the title. It worked out in my favor. Saga of a Doomed Universe perfectly evoked exactly what this story was all about and was a damned intriguing title, far better than the nebulous ‘Saga’, which doesn’t really serve the story at all.

So, ever the optimist, I’m confident I’ll land on a much better title than High Strangeness. And as a Patreon member, you’ll find out what that is before anyone else!

Latest Art Prints for Sale:

Here’s three of the most recent art prints I’ve listed at my ebay store. Each are printed in high resolution on 2-ply 11″x17″ Bristol board:

I will be planning a whatnot show in the next two weeks, with the intention of offering up additional art and signed comics. I’ve been circling Whatnot for a while, researching the best way to go about doing a live show, and finally decided to pull the trigger and get something scheduled. Details soon!
