I just finished my first illustration of the new year, a Human Torch commission. Had a lot of fun with this one, because it was traditionally inked at my drafting table. Other than the commissioned art, I do most of my work digitally these days, so it’s nice to pick up a brush now and then. With the commission’s, I’m also drawing on 13″ x 19″ Bristol board instead to the standard 11″ x 17″ format. I’m finding I have a lot more freedom to maneuver on the larger paper, as well as greater opportunity to add more detail and finesse. If you are at all familiar with John Byrne’s run on Fantastic Four, you can likely notice that I borrowed a lot from him, including the costume design and photo-stat style background city scape, with the FF’s Baxter building added.
I also completed re-inking the next page of High Strangeness, and finished pencils of the next 2 pages from Saga of a Doomed Universe II. There will be some photoshop graphic elements on the blank panels of that page.
